Humor keeps us alive. Humor and food. Don’t forget food. You can go a week without laughing.
Joss Whedon
Oh, Joss…don’t you know that you could likely go for a week or more without food? But who would want to go that long without either?
People on hunger strikes have survived for over a month. Of course, the point still stands. I’ve known people who seemed to be on permanent laughter strikes who have survived a very long time. Sometimes longer than their less-grim counterparts (which does seem counter-intuitive as the prevailing wisdom indicates that “laughter is the best medicine” and all that.)
But who wants to live without either. Even for those of us who don’t identify with the term “foodie,” if we look, we can identify plenty of ways that food has (figuratively) added spice to our life. When good food and laughter meet — even better!
Joss Whedon, (1964-) if you don’t know, is an American screenwriter, producer, maker of comic books, and other things generally appealing to those of us with geekish tendencies. He created such pop-culture hits as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel, Agents of Shield, Dollhouse, to name a few off the top of my head.
