An Interesting Choice of Icons

Home » Street Art » An Interesting Choice of Icons

So, I’m trying out the WP Discuz “Advanced Likers” addon on this and another site. Not that this blog has any comments yet, but it’s a “pimp my blog” sort of thing.

The addon offers five “ranks” of commenters — you can call the ranks whatever you want, and choose your own icon from a collection of Font Awesome free icons.

But I wanted coffee! Yes, real coffee, but also coffee icons for ranks.

And I found:

Font Awesome doesn’t offer that many free coffee icons, but they do offer:

Maybe beer could pass for a third:

WP Discuz isn’t alone in this. I’ve also had trouble with other plugins using free Font Awesome not having some of the free ones available. They’re there to embed, but not easily in a plugin, and sometimes I’ve had trouble getting the unusual ones to show.

But, what do I find? Among the ones I’ve searched for that are lacking, they have these:

Yes it is. Rock. Paper. Scissors. Lizard. Spock.

Not many choices in the coffee department, but…these. Among the many icons to choose from, they need more in the free coffee department.

From now on the ranks on this site are rock, paper, scissors, lizard, and Spock. Confusing? Yes!

It’s only logical that it will take a lot of comments to reach Spock status.

Dear reader, if you don’t know what Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock is, it’s a more complicated version of the popular kids’ “Rock, Paper, Scissors” game made popular on the TV Show The Big Bang Theory.

Do this to solve disputes if you have children you want to annoy!

Cheryl is a former Occupational Therapist and WordPress enthusiast who became a writer in some parallel universe and occasionally, but infrequently, publishes things in this one. She writes two blogs (or is it three) which she won't quit because she knows that blogs, in her case, are like a hydra and if she cuts one off two more will take its place. When she's not doing that, she enjoys hiking, cycling, kayaking (formerly fast, now ebike), messing around with Adobe illustrator, making assorted things, meditating (though she wouldn't call that "like," and reading. She normally doesn't speak about herself in the third person, but she sometimes uses "we" in the royal sense while writing this blog. She lives in Poulsbo, WA with her spouse, her youngest adult daughter, a very old mutt, and a Siamese cat.
