It’s About Time to Make Juneteenth a National Holiday

Juneteenth is a celebration of the emancipation of the final slaves in the US. It's not a new holiday -- its first celebrations date back to the post-Civil-War era. Some companies, such as Twitter, recently announced that they're making it into a company holiday and giving employees the day off. It's time to make it a national holiday finally.

Someone on social media criticizing others for continuing with business-as-usual and posts-as-scheduled instead of posting about Black Lives Matter incited my irritation. But it did do something useful: forcing me to look at what I was doing, and what I could do to help (in ways that involved more than hashtags.)
